Become A BTR Scorer
You are here:

BTR
> Become A BTR Scorer
All Official Scorers for Buckmasters Whitetail Trophy Records Must Be:
1. A BUCKMASTERS MEMBER.
Measurers forfeit their active status and lose their scorer benefits if they allow their Buckmasters membership to expire. In the case of married couples, when both husband and wife are certified measurers, only one membership is required. Similarly, only one complimentary subscription to RACK magazine will be given.
2. WILLING TO BE ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC ON A VOLUNTEER BASIS.
Notify the BTR chairman of all changes in address or telephone number. Failure to do so, even if a Buckmasters customer service representative has been notified, could result in a measurer's being deleted from the active list. The BTR chairman is the only person with access to the BTR database, which is not connected to the general membership database.
3. AN HONORABLE HUNTER IN GOOD STANDING IN HIS COMMUNITY.
All official scorer applicants will be required to have a
character affidavit
signed by their local DNR or Fish and Wildlife Division officer, confirming the applicant has no convictions of game or hunting-related violations. If convicted of such after certification, a measurer faces permanent suspension.
To qualify for certification as an official BTR scorer, a candidate must have a general understanding of scoring procedures for white-tailed deer. The candidate must attend an official BTR scorer certification clinic and must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the instructor that he/she comprehends all BTR scoring procedures. In addition, he/she must pass the BTR scorer's test given at the conclusion of the class. If a person doesn't pass the test, no refunds will be issued. The person, however, may attend another class at no charge.
BENEFITS FOR SCORERS
All active BTR scorers are entitled to a complimentary subscription to
RACK magazine
, the official publication of the BTR. In addition, they are entitled to a 50% discount off select merchandise offered for sale and warehoused by Buckmasters. The discount applies to copies of "Buckmasters Whitetail Trophy Records."
MASTER SCORER DESIGNATION
When Buckmasters first began recruiting measurers for its Full-Credit Scoring System, the designation of Master Scorer was given to those who demonstrated prowess as well as dedication to the expansion of the BTR. Today, this title is given to measurers who enter at least 100 whitetails into the record book.
